

In the Puranas and scriptures, there is a special mention of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra for averting incurable diseases and avoiding premature death. Sage-Munis have called the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra to be the heart of the Vedas. It is also known as the Mrit-Sanjivani mantra, because it is believed that this is an element of the life restoring knowledge gained by the sage Shukra (Venus) after strict austerity and penance. Like the Gayatri Mantra it is one of the most widely known mantra of Sanatan Dharma. In this mantra, Shiva has been described as ‘the vanquisher of death’.
